The Physical Education, Music and Dance unit under the Department of Social Sciences at Enchi College of Education captivated students and guests during the 2026 Heritage Celebration with an outstanding Level 100 Academic Project Performance, highlighting the richness of Ghana’s cultural heritage through traditional music, dance and costume.
The event, organized under the leadership of the Head of the Unit, Mr. Ahenkorah Kwasi Essel, brought together Level 100 students who demonstrated various aspects of Ghanaian culture through carefully prepared performances as part of their academic assessment.
The colourful showcase featured traditional dances, indigenous musical performances, and authentic Ghanaian attire, giving students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a practical setting while celebrating the country’s diverse cultural traditions.
Adding a digital preservation dimension to the programme, the Enchicoe Wiki Club, a Wikimedia community at the college, documented the event through photography for upload to Wikimedia Commons, ensuring that the performances and cultural displays become part of a freely accessible global repository of educational and cultural content.
The documentation exercise aligns with the Wiki Club’s mission of preserving Ghanaian heritage through open knowledge while creating valuable educational resources that can be accessed by researchers, educators, students, and the general public worldwide.
Throughout the programme, volunteers worked respectfully by seeking participants’ consent before capturing photographs, reflecting Wikimedia’s commitment to ethical documentation and respect for individuals.
Speaking on the significance of the project, members of the Wiki Club noted that documenting campus cultural activities helps preserve traditions that might otherwise be forgotten and showcases the cultural richness of Enchi College of Education to a global audience.
The event also demonstrated the important role of practical learning in teacher education. By participating in traditional performances, students not only developed their performance skills but also deepened their understanding of Ghana’s cultural identity and the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge for future generations.
The collaboration between the Department of Physical Education, Music and Dance and the Enchicoe Wiki Club illustrates how academic activities can be combined with digital documentation to promote culture, education, and free knowledge.

Principal Encourages Students to Learn Through Culture
The Principal of Enchi College of Education, Prof. Francis Andoh Kwaw, upon his arrival at the event, commended the students and organizers for promoting Ghanaian culture through practical academic activities.
In his address, the Principal encouraged students to continue participating actively in cultural programmes, emphasizing that such activities provide an important avenue for students to learn more about their own culture and appreciate the traditions and values of other communities.
He highlighted the importance of creating opportunities where students can experience culture beyond what is taught in the classroom. Through active participation in music, dance and other traditional activities, students are able to better understand, appreciate and preserve Ghana’s cultural heritage.
His message reinforced the educational significance of the programme and the important role teacher trainees can play in transmitting Ghanaian cultural knowledge to future generations.
